About Island Peak Climbing

Island Peak Climbing is perfect for physically fit climbers who are adventurers and mountain lovers. It is located at an altitude of 6189m from sea level. The local people called Imja Tse in the local language to island peak. In 1953, Eric Shipton, given the name Island peak which justifies as the peak, located isolated in the center surrounded by glacier. It is unparalleled in mountain vista and snow-faced mountain scenery. This peak climbing is physically demanding but not challenging, which is perfect for all the beginner climbers too. This peak climb is perfect for those who wish to expand their experience towards mountain expeditions which can also be considered as the training grounds.

While embarking on this peak, the trail leads through Sherpa villages where to get to know about unique culture and traditions of Sherpa people. On the way to Island peak, we will pass through monuments, Buddhist monasteries, prayer wheels, and flags. The trail gives us a chance to visit Sagarmatha National Park where many floras and fauna are preserved. On this national park, we get an opportunity to see wildlife animals like musk deer, blue sheep, Himalayan Thar, barking deer, blood pheasant, Tibetan snow cock, and many other animals. From this peak, we get a mesmerizing view of Mt Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Makalu.

Island Peak Climbing Difficulty

Island Peak is moderately difficult but not technically challenging. Some of the difficulty which may face at Island peak is:

Altitude: On this Island peak climbing, the trekkers need trek an altitude of 6000m from sea level. While trekking, at this altitude, usually trekkers will suffer from altitude sickness. Altitude sickness is the most common factor which makes the peak more difficult.

Weather and climate: While trekking in high Himalayan land, the weather temperature can be unpredictable and does not take time to be worse from bad. It is better to trek in autumn and spring, if you are planning to trek in off-season then the weather and climate will be bad.

Island peak climbing routes

To start Island peak, we have to take a short flight from Kathmandu valley. We will take a flight towards Lukla which takes only 35 minutes. After reaching Lukla, we will start our walking trekking towards Phakding. On this peak climbing, we will pass through several Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Chhukung, with mesmerizing views of Mt Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. We also have an opportunity to enter Sagarmatha National Park where numerous numbers of flora and fauna are conserved.

Best time to visit Island peak.

It is very important to know about the perfect time to visit Island peak. The perfect time to visit Island peak is autumn and spring.

Autumn season: Autumn season is the great time to visit Island peak. On this season, the days are warm, and visibility is clear, and the temperature is also relatively mild and comfortable enough to make climbers navigate through challenging terrain.

Spring season: Spring season is the best season where the weather is stable and clear. On this season, you will amaze with the mesmerizing view of mountain with full rhododendron forest.

You can trek in winter and summer season, but the weather is climate is not so good. In this season, climbers have to face many problems while climbing. In winter season, the weather is freezing cold and in summer, there will be rain everywhere and the road is slippery and muddy due to rain. So, it is better to trek in autumn and spring.

Accommodation and food

Accommodation: At this 18 days Island peak climbing, we will spend 3 days in Kathmandu and rest 14 days in high altitude. After Kathmandu, you will get luxury hotel where you will spend comfortable nights. At high Himalayan, we will spend nights at lodge. The lodges have a basic room with two beds, pillows, mattresses, blankets, and basic furniture. While trekking at high Himalayan, you are requested to bring sleeping bag with you because the weather of high land is unpredictable and the blanket provided by lodges is not enough sometime. On this low Himalayan lands, you will get attached bathroom room, but in the high Himalayan land, you have to share a bathroom with other trekkers. While summiting Island peak, we have to spend 3 nights in tent.

Food: You will get both eastern and typical Nepalese food. As the altitude increase, the cost of food will also increase. You will get the entire menu, while trekking here. From Lukla to Dingboche, you will easily get all menus but after Dingboche, there are fewer menus. While spending nights at Tent, you will serve food like instant noodles, rice and Potato and the food which gives more carbohydrate.
