All you need is physically and mentally prepare yourself. If you have kids with you then, you will get a local jeep who takes you to Ghorepani. And from Ghorepani, it is very short hiking which is just 45 minutes or 1-hour walk to sunrise viewpoint.

Preparation for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

On this trekking, we have to trek at an altitude of 3210m from the sea level. So we will need to warm up, practice, have discipline, plan, and fine guidance. You only require good health and self-motivation. You have to walk at least 5 to 6 hours of daily walking, both uphill and downhill. Not only that, but you may improve through yoga and exercises like running, swimming, cycling and some yoga. Before trekking here, you have to increase your water intake which keeps your body hydrated.

How difficult is the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a moderate-level where you have to walk 40 to 50km throughout 4 to 5 days, according to an itinerary. This trekking route is graded as moderate due to its steep terrain, high elevation, and basic facilities. The hiking may be a little challenging for some trekkers, but it is manageable. It is very important to prepare physically before starting a journey. You have to face a basic problem, like you might not get Wi-Fi and an attached bathroom. At some places, you have to share a bathroom with the other group also.

Altitude sickness

It is very difficult to get altitude sickness on this trek. To prevent altitude sickness, you have to keep your body hydrated. While trekking at high altitude, the most important thing is if you have a habit of smoking and drinking, then you have to stop while trekking. Even though there is a low chance of getting altitude sickness, you must take care of yourself. The symptoms are headache, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite, etc. If any of these symptoms are seen, console with your guide and trek downwards as fast as you can. To avoid altitude sickness, you have to stay hydrated, drink at least 2 liters of water, and mainly avoid energy drinks, alcohol, and smoking. Not every trekking will suffer from altitude sickness on this trekking.

Permit for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

For trekking in the every corner of Nepal you need permit. Some place need special trekking permit and some place need normal trekking permit. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is inside the Annapurna Conservation Area so you need permit. The cost of the permit it includes on the packages. While trekking on this route, you need at least two trekking permits which are TIMS and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). You may have question, why you needed trekking, then ACAP protect the wilds animals and flora and fauna. ACAP is known as home for many flora and fauna which are found here. The cost of permit is only USD20 and USD30 which cover on packages.

Accommodation and food during trekking

Accommodation: On the trekking, you will get accommodation easily everywhere. Most of the place of this region is well-developed. The local people are involved to promote local tourism. There is lots of guest house nowadays. There are many lodges everywhere in every stop and most of the lodges have stander twin-sharing room. There are two beds in one room with mattresses, pillow and blanket in each room. It might not be same bed as big hotels at cities but is very much comfortable to sleep. For the bathroom, you have to share with another group also. At few places you will get attached bathroom. If you want private room then you have to pay extra charge for private room. The private room fee is not covered by company you have to pay yourself.

Food: For food, you don’t need to worry. It is because you will get menu for every place with mixed-up food item, both western and local. All the lodges have same food menu it is because the lodge management community manage the menu. Mostly you will get organic vegetable on this trekking because they cultivated themselves. On the route, there will be lots of vendors who sell snack, but it cost a lot. So we recommended all the trekkers to take some snack with you while trekking here.

Best season for trekking here

Throughout the year you can trek here, but, there are two seasons where you can see the clear views.

Spring (March to May): This season is considered as the best season for trekking here. On this season, we will get a clear view of mountain with green scenery everywhere. Spring season is an ideal season to trek to Ghorepani Poon Hill trek. Along the way, the path will full of rhododendron flower on this season.

Autumn (September to November): This time is considered as the best time to trek here. On this season the sun is brilliant and the clear sky with the mesmerizing views of the mountain. You will get to see everywhere green, terraced field crops are mature ready to harvest, and the lowland are verdant where the environment is pollution-free.

However, you can trek on Monsoon and winter season too. But these two seasons is not considered as the best season to trek here. At winter, the weather is colder and the views of the mountain are not so clear. And in the Monsoon season, there will rain everywhere. The road is full of muddy and not clear views of mountain. Due to rain the trail is a little bit slippery. So while trekking on these two season, you have to be more careful.

Essential things for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

For tension free trek you have to pack your bag very well. You might not know that what to pack and what not to pack so here are the list.

Clothes: extra pair of trekking trouser, long sleeve t-shirt, shorts, extra pair of socks, trekking shoes, waterproof jacket and pants, down jacket, sleeping bag, sunhat, gloves, dry towel, scarf, etc.

Gear: trekking pole, sunglass, water bottle, battery backup, light, camera, trekking knife, etc.

First-aid and toiletries: painkiller, antiseptic, bandage, water purification, tissue paper, wet tissue, lip balm, sun cream, soap and shampoo, hand sanitizer, etc.

Most important is your passport, travel insurance document, and passport-sized photo.
