Day 1 Arrive in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Kai Expedition. After clearing immigration and collecting your luggage, you will be greeted with traditional hospitality and transferred to your hotel. Take the rest of the day to relax and recover from your journey, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Nepal’s capital city. A short briefing about the upcoming adventure will be provided later in the evening. -
Day 2 Sightseeing and trekking preparation
Today, you will explore the cultural heart of Kathmandu while making final preparation for the Makalu Base Camp Trek. The morning begins with a guided sightseeing tour to some of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Bouddhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple, offering a glimpse into Nepal’s rich spiritual heritage. In the afternoon, you will check your trekking gear, purchase any last-minute essentials, and attend a short briefing with your guide about the trek ahead. -
Day 3 Fly to Tumlingtar and drive to Seduwa
You will take an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar, a scenic journey offering stunning aerial views of the Himalayas. Upon landing Tumlingtar, you meet the crew and begin a picturesque drive through hilly terrain and traditional villages, heading towards Seduwa. The drive winds through lush forests and terraced fields, gradually climbing into the Makalu-Barun National Park region. Seduwa is a small mountain village surrounded by greenery that marks the starting point of your trek. You will spend the night here, completing permit checks and preparing for the adventure ahead. -
Day 4 Seduwa to Tashigaon
You will begin your hike from Seduwa to Tashigaon, a charming Sherpa village nestled in the hills. The trail ascends gradually through lush forests, bamboo grooves, and small traditional settlements. You will cross several streams and suspension bridges, with scenic views of the surrounding valleys and distant peaks. The walk is peaceful and rich in biodiversity, as you officially enter the Makalu Barun National Park. After about 5 to 6 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Tashigaon, the last permanent settlement on the route, where you will rest for the night. -
Day 5 Tashigaon to Kauma
The trail leads from Tashigaon to Kauma, marking a significant ascent. The route climbs steeply through dense forests of rhododendron and oak before emerging into alpine meadows. As the elevation increases, the air becomes thinner, and the views begin to open up, offering glimpses of snow-capped peaks. The trek is challenging due to the steep gradient, but the serene landscapes and changing vegetation provide a rewarding experience. -
Day 6 Kauma to Mumbak
The journey from Kauma to Mumbak begins with a steep ascent to the Shipton La Pass (4200m), offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Makalu. The trail then crosses a few smaller passes like Keke La and Tutu la before descending through rugged alpine terrain and lush rhododendron forests. The descent can be slippery and challenging, especially in wet conditions. -
Day 7 Mumbuk to Nehe Kharka
The journey continues with a scenic trek from Mumbuk to Nehe Kharka. The trail initially descends through a dense rhododendron and pine forest before opening up to picturesque Barun Valley. As you follow the Barun River upstream, the landscape transforms into alpine meadows surrounded by towering peaks. The walk offers breathtaking views of peak 6 and peak 7, and you may spot yaks grazing along the way. After a steady and rewarding trek of about 5 to 6 hours, you arrive at Nehe Kharka, a beautiful pastureland that serves as a perfect spot to rest and enjoy the serene mountain atmosphere.

Day 8 Nehe Kharka to Shershon
The route from Nehe Kharka to Shershon offers a remarkable journey deeper into the Barun Valley. The trail gradually ascends along the Barun River, with the landscapes becoming more rugged and dramatic. As the vegetation thins, towering peaks like Makalu and peak 7 come into clear view, creating a stunning alpine backdrop. The path passes through rocky terrain and glacial moraines before reaching Shershon, a windswept settlement that serves as the last stop before Makalu Base Camp. The day’s trek, lasting about 5 to 6 hours, provides an unforgettable experience of high-altitude beauty and isolation. -
Day 9 Shershon to Makalu Base Camp
The trek from Shershon to Makalu Base Camp is a short but spectacular journey, usually taking about 2 to 3 hours. The trail ascends gradually along rocky terrain and glacial moraines, with the dramatic south face of Mount Makalu (8485 meters) dominating the skyline. As you approach the base camp, the landscape becomes barren yet breathtaking, surrounded by towering peaks and shimmering glaciers. Reaching Makalu Base Camp offers a sense of triumph and awe, marking the highlight of the entire trek.

Day 10 Acclimatization day at Makalu Base Camp
Today is reserved for acclimatization of Makalu Base Camp, allowing trekkers to adjust to the high altitude and enjoy the stunning surroundings. The day can be spent exploring nearby viewpoints for closer looks at Mount Makalu, Baruntse, and surrounding glaciers. Short hikes around the camp help the body adapt while offering panoramic views of the Himalayas. Day 11 Makalu Base Camp to Shipton-La Camp
The trek from Makalu Base Camp to Shipton-La Camp begins with a gradual descent through rocky and glacial terrain before climbing steadily towards higher altitudes. The trail offers a spectacular view of Makalu and surrounding peaks, with changing landscapes from barren alpine zones to rugged mountain passes. As you ascend, the air becomes thinner, and the air becomes thinner, and the path can be challenging but rewarding. The day ends at Shipton-La Camp, a high-altitude campsite nestled below the Shipton Pass, where trekkers rest and prepare for the next day. -
Day 12 Shipton-La Camp to Seduwa
The trek from Shipton-La Pass Camp to Seduwa is a long and varied journey, beginning with a steep ascent over the Shipton-La Pass, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas. After crossing the pass, the trail descends through rocky slopes, rhododendron forests, and alpine meadows, gradually returning to lower altitudes. The air grows warmer, and vegetation becomes denser as you approach the lush hillsides around Seduwa, a charming village marking the gateway to Makalu-Barun National Park, where the environment feels vibrant and full of life again. -
Day 13 Seduwa to Mure
The trek from Seduwa to Mure on day 13 takes you through beautiful terraced fields, dense forests, and traditional Rai and Sherpal villages. The trail offers gradual ascents and descents, providing stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. You will pass through small settlements where you can observe local life and enjoy the peaceful rural atmosphere. The day’s trek ends at Mure, a charming village marking the junction of trails leading towards the Makalu Base Camp route. -
Day 14 Drive to Tumlingtar to Mure
You will take a scenic drive from Mure back to Tumlingtar, descending through lush hills, terraced farmlands, and charming villages along winding mountain roads. The journey offers one last glimpse of the beautiful countryside and distant Himalayan peaks. As you approach Tumlingtar, the landscapes gradually open up into the fertile Arun Valley, marking the end of your trekking adventure and the beginning of your return journey. -
Day 15 Fly back to Kathmandu
You will take a short scenic flight from Tumlingtar back to Kathmandu, marking the end of your trek Makalu Base Camp Trek. As you leave the hills behind, enjoy aerial views of terraced fields and snow-capped peaks fading into the distance. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel, where you can relax, reflect on your trek, and enjoy the comforts of the city once more. -
Day 16 Departure day
Your final day begins with a peaceful morning giving you time to pack up, enjoying a last Nepali breakfast and perhaps pack up a few souvenirs. Depending on your flight schedule, you have a chance for a short stroll around Thamel or a quiet moment of reflection. Our team member will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport with a heartfelt farewell, marking the end of your unforgettable journey through the Himalayas.
