After completing immigration formalities, you will be transfer to your hotel where you can relax and recover from your journey. In the evening, there will be a brief orientation session to introduce the team, review the itinerary, and ensure you are fully prepared for the adventure ahead.

Day 1 Arrive in Kathmandu

Day 2 Sightseeing and preparation for trekking
Today is dedicated to finally trekking preparation and sightseeing around Kathmandu. You can check gears, finalize permits, and meet with guides to discuss the route and logistic. Once preparation is complete, there is time to explore Kathmandu’s rich cultural heritage, including visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Bouddhanath, and Pashupatinath. The day ends with a traditional Nepali dinner and final briefing, setting the stage for the adventure ahead.

Day 3 Fly to Nepalgunj
From Kathmandu, you will take a scenic flight to Nepalgunj, a bustling town in southwestern Nepal near the India border. This short but essential flight transitions you from the capital’s busy atmosphere to the lowland Terai region, where you will prepare for the adventure ahead. After landing, you will check into your hotel and have time to relax or explore the vibrant local markets before continuing your journey toward the remote Dolpa region.

Day 4 Fly to Juphal from Nepalgunj and trek from Dunai
You will take an early morning flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal, a small airstrip nestled in the hills of Dolpo. From Juphal, you will trek with a scenic walk toward Dunai, the administrative center of Dolpo district. After a few hours of trekking, you will reach Dunai, where you will settle in for the night and prepare for the more remote and rugged trails ahead.

Day 5 Dunai - Tarakot
Today, you will trek from Dunai to Tarakot. The trail gradually ascends through terraced fields, traditional villages, and pine forests, offering views of the rugged Himalayan landscapes. Passing through villages like Byasgad and crossing several suspension bridges, you will experience the rich culture of the Dolpo region. After about 5 to 6 hours of walking, the trail leads to the picturesque village of Tarakot, where you will rest and prepare for the more challenging ascent toward Numa La Pass in the coming days.

Day 6 Tarakot - Laini
Today, you will trek from Tarakot to Laini continues along the Tarap Chu River, gradually climbing through narrow gorges and rugged terrain. The trail passes by scattered settlements and small monasteries, reflecting the spiritual heritage of the region. With occasional steep ascents and river crossing on wooden bridges, the route offers dramatic views of the surrounding cliffs and forested hills. After about 6 to 7 hours of trekking, you will reach Laini, where you rest for the night in preparation for the journey towards Numa La Pass. -
Day 7 Laini - Nawarpani
The trek continues from Laini to Nawarpani, marking a significant step toward the Numa La Pass. The trail follows the high banks of the Tarap Khola River, weaving through deep gorges, rocky paths, and dense pine and juniper forests. As the altitude gradually increase, the air becomes cooler and thinner. The trek offers stunning views of rugged cliffs and cascading waterfalls, while occasional sightings or blue sheep or Himalayan marmots add excitement to the journey. After several hours of walking, you reach Nawarani, a serene riverside campsite surrounding by wild alpine scenery, providing rest and preparation for the more challenging ascent to Numa La Pass.

Day 8 Nawarpani - Dho Tarap
The trek from Nawarpani to Dho Tarap takes you deeper into the Dolpo region, gradually ascending through a narrowing valley. The trail follows the Tarap Khola, passing through lush meadows and small settlements, with scattered chortens and mani walls reflecting the region’s strong Tibetan Buddhist influenced. As the landscapes open up, Dho Tarap appears, a picturesque village at around 4000 meters, surrounded by barley fields and traditional stone houses. This high-altitude village offers a fascinating cultural experience and serves as an important acclimatization stop before the challenging ascent to Numa La Pass. -
Day 9 Acclimatization day at Dho Tarap
Today is an acclimatization day at Dho Tarap; a picturesque village nestled at 4090 meters in the Dolpa region of Nepal. This rest day is essential for adjusting to the altitude before crossing the high Numa La Pass. You can explore the traditional stone houses, visit ancient monasteries like Ribo Bhumpa Gompa, and interact with the warm-hearted local people, experiencing their Tibetan-influenced culture and lifestyle. The surrounding landscapes of rolling hills, green meadows, and grazing yaks offer a perfect backdrop for short hikes, helping the body adapt gradually while soaking in the natural beauty and serenity of this remote Himalayan haven. -
Day 10 Trek towards Numa La Base Camp
You will trek from Dho Tarap to Numa La Base Camp, where the trail follows the Tarap Chu River through a wide valley, gradually gaining altitude with stunning views of barren hills and snow-capped peaks. As you climb higher, the vegetation thins out, and the air becomes crisper, signaling the approach to higher elevation. The base camp is situated at around 4440 meters, offers a remote and peaceful campsite surrounded by rugged terrain, and this place is an ideal place for rest. -
Day 11 Cross Numa La and trek to Danighar
Today, you will cross the challenging Numa La Pass, one of the highest points on the route at approximately 5310 meters. After reaching the pass, the trail descends through rugged alpine terrain, eventually leading to the remote campsite at Danighar, where you can rest and recover amidst serene mountain landscapes.

Day 12 Cross Baga La Pass and trek to Yak Kharka
The journey continues with a steep climb to Baga La Pass, standing at around 5170 meters. The trail offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and deep valleys below. After reaching the pass, the descent begins through rocky slopes and alpine meadows, eventually arriving at Yak Kharka, a tranquil grazing area for yaks. The day ends with a peaceful overnight stay surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.

Day 13 Yak Kharka - Phoksundo Lake

You can take a short hike around the lake, visit the nearby Bon Monastery in Ringmo villages, or simply relax by the shore, soaking in the surreal beauty and spiritual atmosphere of this sacred place. It is a peaceful pause in the journey, offering both physical recovery and cultural enrichment.

Day 15 Phoksundo Lake - Sallaghari

Day 16 Sallaghari - Chhepka
The trek continues from the Sallaghari with an early start to tackle the challenging Numa La Pass, one of the highest points on the Dolpo trek. After crossing the pass, the trail descends steeply through rocky terrain and gradually transitions into lush forests. The long and strenuous journey ends at the village of Chhepka, where the warmer climate and greenery offer a welcome contrast to the barren highlands. -
Day 17 Chhepka - Juphal
The final day of the Numa La Pass trek begins with a scenic journey from Chhepka to Juphal, descending through lush forests, terraced fields, and charming villages. The trail gradually follows the Bheri River, offering beautiful views of the surrounding hills and glimpses of the local landscapes. Upon reaching Juphal, you can reflect on the incredible journey through the Dolpo region before preparing for the flight back to Nepalgunj. -
Day 18 Fly back to Nepalgunj and take flight back to Kathmandu
Begin the day with a short scenic flight from Jhupal to Nepalgunj, retracing your route over the dramatic landscapes of western Nepal. Once you reach Nepalgunj, you will take a flight towards Kathmandu. Upon arrival in the capital, you will be transferred to your hotel, where you can rest and reflect on the unforgettable trekking adventure through the remote Dolpo region.

After a final breakfast in the Kathmandu Valley, the team member of Kai Expedition will take you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flights, carrying with you lasting memories of Nepal.
